As you are probably already working in your garden, I suggest that you check out these 7 easy steps to make eggshell seed starters. You will love it!
You will need:
Seeds
Eggshells
Egg carton
Needle or thumbtack
Potting soil
Small spoon
Pot and stove
Natural soil-safe crayons or finger paints (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1- Remove the content of your eggs by breaking a small hole at the pointer end.
Step 2- Clean the inside of the eggshells by boiling them in water for a few minutes to kill any bacteria.
Step 3- Make a small drainage hole in the bottom of every shell.
Step 4- Place them back into the carton and use a small spoon to fill each shell with soil.
Step 5- Add your seeds.
Step 6- Place your eggshell seed starters in a warm and sunny location. Water to keep the soil moist.
Step 7- Watch your seedlings sprout and transplant them into your garden. Gently crush the shell and remove some shards at the bottom so the roots can find the soil easily. You can plant the shell as is, it will decompose in the soil and add nutrients to your seedlings.
These 7 easy steps to make eggshell seed starters are so much fun to do. Get the kids and the whole family involved. You can also use some soil-safe crayons or natural finger paints to create some pretty labels on the outside of the shell.

This is such a great idea! I’ve never thought about using eggshells this way … I’ve been making newspaper to make seedling pots. I always keep my eggshells & break them up & work them into my soil.
