Bathrooms are usually a smaller room in a home, and that means they can get messy and cluttered a lot faster. Bathrooms get a lot of traffic each day, and it is easy for things to become a bit of a mess easily. I am going to share some effective and simple tips for decluttering your bathroom. Once you get a system in place you can try and keep the clutter factor to a minimum!
7 Effective and Simple Tips for Decluttering Your Bathroom
Your makeup bag, hair dryers, flat irons, lotions, styling products and more can create a pile up on your counters and clutter your cabinets. Bathrooms accommodate a variety of grooming tasks, and often for multiple people! So when you have a small space with a lot of items, it creates a bit of a chaotic scenario if you don’t keep things organized. Read these simple tips below and get your bathroom in tip-top shape!
Tackling Clutter In Your Bathroom
A lot of the plastic bins and containers that I will recommend can be found at your local Dollar Tree or even Dollar Store. You can find items in other stores, but buying them at a lower price makes it more affordable to organize a room!
Purge First
First and most effective step, purge your bathroom. Purging will help you get rid of items that are just taking up space. Do you have 5 blow dryers and only use one of them? Bring in an empty trash bag and a box, toss stuff you won’t use and place items you might want to donate or give to a friend or family member. This will help you lower the inventory of your bathroom and free up useful space. This is also when you should think about which of your beauty products can serve double or even triple duty. If you look at some of the Mario Badescu reviews, for example, you can see that many of their products can act as both a moisturizer and a night cream. Tossing items that don’t work this way is a quick and simple way to save more space.
Bathroom Drawers
Bathroom drawers can be a catch all and create massive clutter. Use plastic utensil trays or containers to use to add separation throughout the drawer. It allows you to store your bobby pins, hair ties, jewelry and other items in specific areas in the drawers. It helps you eliminate rummaging through to find items. Make sure all drawers have designated spaces for items, so it saves you from just tossing it into a drawer.
Baskets for Cupboards
Consider using baskets and plastic bins for storing items in your cupboards. Store items like nail care in one bin, skin care in another, shaving supplies, etc. Label each plastic bin or basket so everyone in the family knows what is in that bin. Then when you open a cupboard you can see exactly what you want easily, and everything has its own spot.
Store Loose Items in Canisters or Containers
When you have smaller items like cotton balls, q-tips, and other loose items, storing in a canister or container helps keep items in place and sanitary! You can use them to display on a shelf or tuck away! I love using mason jars, apothecary jars, to display!
Medicine Cabinet
Make sure that when you are cleaning your bathroom, you take the time to weed through your medicine cabinet. Get rid of any medicines that are expired, and help free up space.
Shelves and Storage
Consider hanging a few shelves in your bathroom to use to display items and use for storage. You can place a nice green succulent plant and then display your cotton balls, and face wipe pads in jars on the shelf. Or if you have a closet in the hall, consider moving some of your items you have been storing in the bathroom you don’t use as often out, to free up space.
Clean Counters
Try to keep your counter nice and clean. Less is more and makes it look organized. This will make for an inviting and refreshing looking bathroom when you or your guest walk in.
