7 Tips for Gardening on a Budget.
Everyone wants their home to look beautiful, but you may not have the money to create a home like the celebrities and that is okay. There are tricks and tips in every way of life to look great on a budget. Gardening is no exception. The majority of people do not have a fortune to spend on expensive gardeners and landscaping. Don’t fret! Do it all on a budget and have the curb appeal and/or vegetable patch you want for your home.
Check out these 7 tips for gardening on a budget and your home will look amazing in no time!
Repurpose: You’ve probably seen all the DIY videos floating around where people are using a repurpose technique to bring inexpensive flair to their gardens. That’s because it works! Repurposing pallets, barrels, old doors, windows, etc. can save you a ton of money. A little sanding and spray paint and you can change a pallet into seating, a raised garden or even a vertical plant holder. Look like you spent a ton on something from Pier 1 without ever stepping foot in there!
Stumped: If you have a stump in your yard, don’t pay to have it removed. Instead, take a little time to hollow it out and use it as a planter! You can even create an entire centerpiece in your yard using an old stump or even a section of trunk. Add a little mulch around the base and plant around it, too.
Pick Your Plants Carefully: Depending on the area you live in, there are certain plants that are more prone to thriving. If you’re not big into taking the time each year to plant, and you want to avoid spending more money, different types of cacti and succulents are a great way to save money and have your garden look amazing. They require little to no watering and can add a certain flair that no one else will have.
Maintenance: The way you handle your garden maintenance makes a huge impact on how your garden appears. There are things right in your cabinet that help with killing weeds, such as vinegar, salt, baking soda and simple boiled water. No need to spend a lot of money on weed killers that usually don’t work. Just shop your kitchen pantry!
Buy the Seeds: Though it’s very appealing to buy the seedlings (already potted, starting to grow), buy the seeds instead. Seed packets are a lot less expensive and you can get a lot more out of them if you take the time to nurture them properly. Remember to buy smart!
Compost: One of the biggest expenses when caring for your garden is fertilizer. If you opt to use compost instead, it will save you a bundle on gardening. There are a ton of how-to guides on composting and there are usually some local groups dedicated to helping teach gardeners how to care for their land in a more eco-friendly way.
Shop Around: In most areas, there are ways to shop around and find the best deals on plants, mulch, grasses, etc. Check online, like on Craigslist, local Facebook pages, CoOps, and other means to get inexpensive, or sometimes even free, materials for your garden. Taking the extra time to shop around is a huge money saving technique for gardening and everything else you would want to save money on.
Don’t sit around and wonder how you’re going to get a beautiful garden on a small budget. Take control and utilize the resources in your area. Go out and get the garden of your dreams using these tips for gardening on a budget!

These are great tips. I have one for mulching and killing weeds – lawn clippings. When grass decomposes, it gets SUPER hot. It makes a great mulch, and the big time heat kills off weeds.
