Summer Road Trips: What you need to know
Before you go on your summer road trips, there are many things you should check.
“Hitting the road with your windows down and your favourite tunes on the radio is one of summer’s simplest pleasures, only enhanced by how beautiful our country’s landscapes are,” says Darryl Croft, automotive expert at OK Tire. “Before heading out, it is important that drivers are prepared in case of an emergency.”
Here are some of the things you should check before going on your summer trips:
Prepare an emergency kit. Your emergency kit should include first aid supplies, food, bottled water, candles, and matches. You should bring washer fluid, flares, a spare tire, a flashlight, extra batteries, and of course your cell phone charger. Keeping an emergency kit with you can definitely help you avoid a serious road trip disaster.
Vehicle maintenance. Your tires, brakes, suspension, and steering should be checked out by an automobile professional to make sure that they are running smoothly. Poor performance can be dangerous when your trip calls for bumpy road driving, high speeds, or even quick stops. Don’t forget to check on your spare tire too!
Bring a backup set of keys. Bringing an extra set of car keys might save your trip and your sanity. How frustrating is it when you want to leave the house but can’t find your car keys? Now imagine that happening when you’re a hundred miles from home.
Top up your gas tank. Always keep your eye for the next gas station. When your fuel drops to one quarter you should stop to top up your gas tank. Don’t risk unusually long distances between stations that could see your road trip plans coming to a halt.
Have your paperwork in order. Keep your license, registration, and proof of insurance with you. Don’t forget to make sure that they are valid for the length of your trip.

Great tips. We take so many road trips and we need to be sure our van and car are in great working order. That starts with tires often.
