I was 6 years old when I realized that I was overly concerned with many things. I so was worried about missing my school bus and arriving late at school that I would have panic attacks. Of course, I didn’t know what was happening to me at the time but it was very scary. I had heart palpitations and shortness of breath and I felt like I was going to die.
It is only at the age of 19 years old that I went to a doctor and told him about what I was experiencing. I was surprised that he immediately knew what was wrong with me. He told me that I had anxiety and that there were a few things that I could do to get better. I felt an immense sense of relief knowing that I could possibly feel better.
As many of us suffer from anxiety, I decided to share with you what my doctor suggested I do to try to control it.
Have Fun!
Say what?! I was definitely not having fun. Juggling school and 2 jobs, I didn’t have time to think about having fun. I decided to quit one of the jobs and to go out with friends once in a while.
Sleep. Sleep. Sleep.
At the time, I was only sleeping 5 to 6 hours per night. It was clearly not enough. As soon as I started to sleep more, I noticed a decrease in my anxiety level. This gave me so much hope that I could live a better life.
Eat healthy food.
I was not one to plan my meals and I would grab anything I could find on the go. Big mistake. It is definitely proven now that eating well makes you feel better and live better.
Exercise.
It is also scientifically proven that exercise can help control anxiety. I started to go for walks and I actually enjoyed it more than I thought.
Overall, going to the doctor that day completely changed my life. I started to take control of my anxiety and I got a better quality of life. I am now fully aware of any anxiety symptoms that come my way and I can easily control them.
Obviously, I am not a doctor but I believe that you can also learn to control your own anxiety. I care about you my readers, and I want to show you that it is possible to control your anxiety with a little bit of work daily. It’s like brushing your teeth, it takes daily maintenance. You can do it too, but only after you talk to your doctor.
