I purchase a beautiful 5″ Sobeys cake today. It was very well decorated and looked very good. It was my first time buying a cake from Sobeys and unfortunately it was not a good experience. I knew that I was not getting a fancy cake but I was not expecting the “cake” portion to be 2″ inches and the icing to be 6″! Two thirds of the cake was icing! I had to take a picture.

I just bought my Aunt and Uncles 50th anniversary cake from Sobeys and it was one of the best cakes I’ve eaten. Everyone complimented me on it asking where I got it. They did a beautiful job decorating it also. The young girl who took my order was very sweet and helpful. Great experience and I need a baby shower cake in 3 weeks so I know where I’ll be going.
I order all the time from metro cakes, and they are the best. The ones I have gotten from sobeys
are ok also. Never have a heard or seen such a mess. Sobeys would have taken it back if you
had taken it back.

I usually make my own cakes, but I love the chocolate cakes from Metro. Best cakes ever!!
I just bought a Sobey’s cake yesterday. My kids prefer their cakes over any other because the icing is not really sweet. Looks like the icing was thick because of the design of the cake. I have not had anything like that. Usually get the slab cake and they are delicious. I have also gotten friends to buy their cakes over other brands because they are always moist and not really sweet.
ive had a few cakes from sobeys. they have a REALLY GOOD chocolate banana cake. its heavenly! mmm now i want it!

…That is pretty bad…I’d take it back…Even if it had been whipped cream but all that icing…I’d be in a coma !!!
Wow that is something else. What kind is it. I have no idea what happened with it. I have ordered a few cakes from Sobeys and none ever had that much icing on it! I would show Sobeys the picture and ask for a refund. Holy heart attack, they must have a new baker lol.
The ones I ordered were actually quite nice. I have only ordered a 1/2 slab or 1/4 slab cake though.
But I see that you bought an already made cake. I have also tried thier fruit flan off shelf, which my guys prefer over a traditional birthday cake, not as much sweet icing.
I generally like thier bakery items, sorry you had such a bad experience, especially seeing that Sobeys has bought out Safeway now too.
I think you should give them another try, maybe ask for another new cake to try out.
Love icing too, but this one is not too good. Yuck!
I have had many Sobey’s cakes and none of them looked like that. Mine have always been very good. Sorry to hear of your experience.

Is that icing or cream? Either way, that is a crapload and waaaaaay too much! I haven’t had Sobeys cakes before, but have had Dominion cakes (Loblaws) and I like them.
I buy only grocery store cakes and have never had one that looks like that LOL However, I wouldn’t complain. I have a very very sweet tooth and often eat only the icing and pass the cake to my hubby. This cake looks perfect to me hahaha!
