How to Save on Groceries

How to Save on Groceries

Don’t go to the grocery this week. If you look around the kitchen you will most likely find enough to feed your family for a week. I realized that we could survive on what was in the freezer when we got a bad cold and were unable to go out. It actually felt good to finally eat things that were there for some time.

The obvious one, use coupons. That is probably why you ended up on my blog in the first place. According to the Canadian Deals & Coupons Association over 14, 000, 000 Canadians use deals, offers and coupons. There is no need to become an extreme couponer, just by saving $10 to $20 dollars a week by using coupons you will save over $480 a year.

Eat less meat. Meet is expensive and is probably the highest-cost item in our diet. Add tofu instead of chicken on your stir fry. I am not vegetarian, but I could easily survive without eating any meat.

Know the prices. Not everything advertised in the flyers are good deals. Know the prices of the products you use often. You might not know what is a good deal if you don’t know the prices.

Use grocery apps. They give you access to coupons and flyers. My favorite coupon app is Checkout 51.

Stockpile. Many people stockpile non-perishable groceries purchased on sale. You don’t need to be a couponer for stockpiling. When you see a really good price for items that you use, you should get a lot of it. If you are a couponer, you can combine the sale with your coupons and you will save even more on your groceries.

So true – many times I think I’m out of groceries – and my pantry is full! It’s not until I notice things expiring, that I realize how much I waste. Great post!
