Crafting Tips for Beginners
I used to think of the word crafting as some sort of torture that lured me into its trap; however, crafting doesn’t have to be hard when you have the right tips. Of course, the internet has made crafting as simple as searching Pinterest for a DIY tutorial that walks you through each step. However, here are the crafting tips for beginners you should know:
Patience is a Virtue: You have probably heard this saying your whole life, but I am going to tell it to you again; patience is a virtue. If you rush through something, it’s going to be even more frustrating as you go. Only start a craft when you have time to work on it.
Make Sure you have Everything: Before you start any craft, it is important to make sure you have everything you need. I can’t tell you how many times I have cut jagged lines with children’s scissors instead of making sure I had a nice pair. Trust me a good pair of scissors is a must.
Do Some Research: So, my husband and I recently did a wood floor craft project in our home, and we found out we suck at it. Literally, we just couldn’t get the boards to go together without leaving gaps. Needless to say, had we done some research beforehand, we would have known we had to slide the pieces together instead of taking a hammer to them. We, also, would have known the importance of making the boards line up before the end. So, do your research first.
Know a few Tricks of the Trade: Crafting can be hard if you don’t know some of the following tips.
- Put used paint brushes in softener or hair condition to clean easily.
- Use a Comb to hold your nails (I hate hitting my fingers).
- Use plastic table clothes from the dollar store as covers (bigger, better, cheaper).
- Use a blow dryer to remove hot glue gun strings.
- Paint edges and first and brush up from the edge and down from the edge.
- Sharpen dull scissors by cutting sandpaper.
Crafting gets easier and easier each time you work on a project. Trust me, I have failed at many, but as I keep going, I pick up more tips along the way.

Great tips here, I always clean my paint brushes right away but didn’t know that softener or hair condition makes them easier to clean. 🙂

To keep brushes from drying out between coats, or to finish a painting project the next day, put the bristle part of the paintbrush in a plastic sandwich bag, seal it with tape, and place in the fridge, until you are ready to paint again.

I don’t have any crafting tips so really found your tips very useful especially about purchasing table cloths for covers at dollar store and sharpening scissors on sandpaper.

I LOVE to craft. One piece of advice I have is if you are painting, clean your brushes immediately after use!
