My kids grow out of their clothes so quickly, it can sometimes feel overwhelming. This is why I’m taking the #3lbChallenge – donating their gently used items to the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline Program, just three pounds at a time.
I like to go through my kids’ closets, especially at this time of the year, to make room for their new back-to-school outfits, shoes and backpacks. My husband and I also clean up our own wardrobes by putting aside everything that we haven’t worn during the year – old yoga pants, accessories and business suits that don’t fit anymore. We drop these items into our nearest Clothesline Drop Box and think of it as the easiest weight we’ll ever lose, while contributing to a great cause!
Did you know that according to Statistics Canada, Canadians spend four per cent of every dollar earned on clothing? Over time, that means we end up with quite the cluttered closets, and a lot of that clutter ends up in places it shouldn’t.
As a rule in our household, you will never see us throwing our used clothes in the garbage. We know that many people are in need of our gently used clothing, and that it is our responsibility to keep that clothing out of landfills. We choose instead to give our clothes to the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline Program and hope that one day our donations will help find a cure for the over 10 million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes. We have family members who are managing diabetes themselves, and we know all too well the day-to-day challenges that they have to face.
Having tried it myself, I would love to encourage you to take the #3lbChallenge. Declutter your closet and feel good about it, knowing that you will not only be helping people in need, but that you’re also positively impacting the environment. By giving a minimum of three pounds of gently used clothing to a red Clothesline Drop Box in your neighbourhood, you could also win one of eight weekly $500 prizes or even a grand prize of a $5000 travel voucher.
To enter for a chance to win, all you need to do is collect a minimum of three pounds (approximately a small grocery bag) of gently used clothing and share a photo of the clothes you are giving away on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #3lbChallenge.
Use the “Clothesline” mobile app available on iOS and Android to find your closest drop box to make your donation. When you log a donation with the app you earn milestone badges to help track your progress, share via social media, and challenge friends to join you in taking the #3lbChallenge. If you’re not sure where to begin, take inspiration from these fun weekly themes that will be sure to have you clearing out your cluttered closets in no time.
It’s time to take the #3lbChallenge! Declutter your home and feel good about it! Visit the Clothesline Program’s #3lbChallenge official rules and follow the Canadian Diabetes Association on Facebook.

Those mail boxes from the Canadian Diabetes Association remind me of England, since they are always red there. I do hope that they are very successful, also in raising awareness too. it’s a worthy cause.
