While walking along the streets of Havana, families can stop at the Plaza de la Catedral. This is where the Catedral de San Cristobal de la Habana is located. The entire family will want to search for the plaque and marble wreath that was placed here to mark one of the places that Christopher Columbus was laid to rest.
There are three more plazas in the area. Each one, Plaza de Armas, Plaza Vieja, and Plaza de San Francisco de Asis, is unique in its own way. Families should try to visit the Plaza Vieja during the evening hours. Parents can enjoy a drink while the children watch puppet shows, balloon artists, and numerous street performers.
Families with smaller children might not be able to walk throughout the entire city. Thankfully there are other options available for those families and anyone else who needs a break from walking. There are multiple cyclos and horses and carts in every main square that are ready to give everyone a ride around the city.
Anyone who has children who stay up late will want to visit the La Cabaña Fort. It is where a cannon is fired across the harbor at nine o’clock every night. Before the cannon is fired, families can watch a reenactment of an 18th century ceremony.
Things to do in Cuba
The National Zoo is a wonderful place to spend time outside with family while seeing all of the animals. While families can walk around the zoo, they can also ride in the train for a tour of the zoo.
Art work is creatively featured in an alleyway called Callejon de Hamel. Some of the art work includes converted bathtubs, murals, and a doll that is in the ground. Every Sunday there is live music playing in the alley as well.
In Havana, there is an ice cream shop called Coppelia and people can tell from the long lines that the ice cream is delicious. Right next to the shop is a little park, which is the best place for families to enjoy their ice cream and run around.
These are just a few of the things that families can do with their children in Cuba. There are many more including hiking the trails in the mountains, taking tours of the countryside, and of course, spending time on the beaches. No matter what families decide to do while in Cuba, they will find that they will have a vacation of a lifetime.
