Gifts Baby and Mom Really Need!
When I was pregnant with my first child, I was asked to create a baby registry. I was so overwhelmed with all the baby products available that I didn’t enjoy making a registry at all. Would my baby really need an infant bathtub or a dozen of baby blankets? Would I need the latest teething rings and several pair of shoes? I had no idea. I ended up receiving so many impractical baby gifts that I had to donate them.
This is not unusual, in fact, 62% of Canadian moms have received an impractical baby gift they don’t use. From silver rattles to itchy and too small wool sweaters. All are well-meaning family members and friends that just don’t know what to buy.
Research from a recent study “Baby Gifting – The Bizarre, the Useful and the Needed” shows some baby gifts, such as a five-speed bike, are quite impractical. It’s also been found that almost half of gift givers {42%} are unaware that they may actually be gifting something completely impractical.
Here are more statistics from the study “Baby Gifting – The Bizarre, the Useful and the Needed”:
Just over six-in-10 Canadian moms consider gift cards to be useful gifts.
Seventy per cent of Canadian moms think diapers are helpful gifts.
Sixty-three per cent of Canadian moms will thank you for onesies, while fifty-seven per cent will happily receive other baby clothes and baby toys or books.
Just over half of Canadian moms will be grateful for bedding, blankets and swaddling blankets.
Car seats and strollers also make the top cut for useful gifts coming in at forty-two per cent and forty per cent respectively.
Thankfully PlaytexBaby™ is helping to make gift giving a lot easier with an exclusive Babies “R” Us promotion. Until October 31, spend $40 or more on PlaytexBaby™ products at all Babies “R” Us stores and on BabiesRUs.ca (excluding all Playtex® Diaper Genie® products) and you will receive a bonus $10 gift card. This allows you to give mom a gift she will actually use – feeding essentials for baby’s first year, plus a $10 gift card to pick up something extra on her next visit.
When I was pregnant with my second child, I knew too well what I really needed- a car seat, a stroller, and on the go items! Yes! PlaytexBaby™ has an amazing ”On The Go” bundle, you should check it out!

I loved getting baby clothes when mine were born. I used cloth diapers, so throw aways would have been no use at all to me.

If it’s a first baby an outfit is nice because the mom still loves all the cute, but any after that and I give diapers.

I agree gift cards are a much better gift because only you know what you want and need

I appreciated the gift cards as then I could buy items that I needed.

Having given birth to twins twice, I am quite in favour of giving diapers in different sizes as newborn gifts. Even if the recipient can’t or doesn’t use them, they can always be passed on to someone in need.
