Did you know that you are driving distracted any time something takes your attention from driving? In the beginning, distracted driving was centered on the use of cell phones, but it is really just a small part of it. So many things can distract a driver including eating, drinking, and even talking with a passenger. Distractions can come from anything that makes you look away from the road. A split second is all it takes to dramatically change the rest of your life.
Talking with a passenger while driving is a tough one for me and many parents. I find it difficult to carry a never-ending conversation with my kids while driving. “Mommy, look at this, Mommy look at that.” I have two preschoolers that obviously can’t help but talk and scream, and they don’t quite understand why I can’t look at them while driving. It is so stressful and I often have to ignore them to stay focused on driving. I usually play a CD so we can all sing and it won’t take too much of my brain power.
Driving requires your full attention. Losing your focus on the road can lead to weaving in and out of your lane, missing a traffic sign, and putting yourself, your passengers, and others at risk. Distracted driving is one of the most common causes of collisions and easily one of the most avoidable. So today, I am asking you to visit CAA right now to Make the Promise to end Distracted Driving.
CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) and other traffic safety partners have come together to launch a six week long education and awareness campaign from July 29 to Sept 12. They are urging all drivers to make a promise to themselves and to their family and friends to focus on the road. CAA has been advocating against distracted driving over the last 10 years. I am making the Promise to end Distracted Driving and I want to encourage YOU to do it too.
Join us on August 5 from 12 -1 p.m. EST for CAA’s Distracted Driving Twitter Party to win great prizes!
For more information visit CAA on Facebook and on Twitter.

So I dont get distracted while driving, I shut my phone off when I get in the car
Amazing how a distracted driver says ” I didn’t see it”, while it was because they were distracted and not having their eyes on the road
Look at the fiasco happening because a drunk distracted driver on the QEW, who was driving a dump truck with the back lifted, it smashed into the skyway bridge Toronto bound. Wrecking bridge structure, temporary scaffolding being used by workers on the bridge. The workers had to jump for their lives. This has created such a driving disaster for anyone going Toronto way
Sounds like a great opportunity to learn about the dangers of distracted driving.
