Road Trippin’ around Canada
July is the perfect time to take a family road trip – school’s out so the kids are up for an adventure! There are endless possibilities when it comes to the type of road trips you can take from a local destination, to one across the country.
Not sure where you want to go? Here are three great adventures to get your mind wandering and maybe inspire your next trip: Quebec City, Haliburton and Tofino. Not sure what each has to offer? Read more below!
- Tofino, British Columbia. Looking for something truly picturesque? Head to Canada’s surf capital – Tofino. Get your family on a ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo and drive along the Pacific Rim Highway for a truly breathtaking view of mountains and lakes, along with rainforest. The area is also known for its trees, which grow in spectacular sizes. Some trees are believed to be 1000 years old.
- Haliburton, Ontario. Truly the quintessential summer escape from the big city, you’ll practically feel the stress lifting as you start driving into cottage country. There are several scenic route options, dotted with great ice cream parlours along the way, which all lead to good times ahead. Whether you stay for the day or rent a cottage, you’ll want to make sure you stop at Webers in Orillia, a Canadian burger landmark since 1963.
- Quebec City, Quebec. Whatever direction you’re coming in from, stop in a few francophone villages on your way into the old city to soak up the culture, food and French! Making your way through the beautiful and lush countryside, you’ll be thrilled to arrive at your final destination: old Quebec City, a city full of history, architecture, cobble stone streets and endless charm.

I love to road trip around my province of NL! So many things to see!
I haven’t done it yet, but I think my favourite place will be the East Coast – we want to do a trip from Quebec to PEI. Currently we have done the Okanagan and Vancouver to Whistler on the West Coast (where we are from), and between the 2 it’s a tie for favourite – different scenery, both beautiful.
I love going to the Thousand Islands! with side trips to Kingston. We also love Quebec and would eventually like to see Banff.
I like to road trip in my home province, Newfoundland.

My favourite road trip excursion is Cape Breton, NS!
We love to road trip to Waterton Lakes National Park. It is located by the border of Montana and where Waterton Park ends Glacier Park begins. It is a beautiful spot with activities for all ages.

I love driving the rolling hills as you enter City of Kawartha Lakes.
When we were kids we used to imagine we were on a roller coaster as we went down one hill and up the next!
When I was in Edmonton my son took me to the mountains and I loved it.

My favorite road trip now, is to visit my great grandmother in Bancroft. It is so nice to get out of the city. I love the rock walls! Sometimes we just continue on, and pick and a direction and drive. Once we ended up in Picton, and had a wonderful adventure! 🙂 One day I’d like to drive to British Columbia.

Love taking a road trip up through Muskoka but usually in the fall when the leaves start to turn colours.
Our place to road trip is to Niagara Falls, it’s a nice drive there all the scenery and so quiet, we take the backroads so we just take our time, and it’s nice!!
