As the new school year approaches, one of the most important safety concerns we should pay attention to is our vehicle safety. With the increasing number of teens driving to school, it is vital to ensure that your vehicle is in perfect working order. If you have a teen or first time driver in your home who will be driving to school, make sure to make these car checks with them to get you and your children prepared for driving. Getting your teen into the habit of doing car checks is super important.
Teen Drivers : Get Their Vehicle Ready for Going Back to School.
Automotive lighting
Make sure that your lights work, even if your teen drives only during the day. If it rains or snows, your lights will make them visible to other drivers. We use SYLVANIA SilverStar ULTRA headlights because they are the brightest downroad halogen headlights from SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting. They also offer a wide range of high performance automotive lighting products. You can easily find the right lights for you and your car by visiting Canadian Tire. I didn’t know I had choice when selecting headlights, but now I know better. I wanted to see better at night and I sure do now. Seeing better helps avoid hazards and safety issues that can cause accidents.
Tires
Check to make sure that your tires are in good condition and are inflated properly. Tires wear out and with the colder weather coming our way, it is definitely not a good time to be driving on worn down tires. Bald tires are more likely to skid and slide on the road, and they have a higher risk of being damaged by potholes. You can watch for signs of wear by looking at the tread depth. You can use a coin and insert it head side down between the treads on the tire. If you can see the top of the head on the coin, your tires probably need replacing. Don’t forget to check the pressure on your spare tire too!
Battery
Car batteries come in different sizes. It is important to choose the right one to ensure the correct fit and that the power is sufficient. The cold weather is hard on car batteries, so it is important to test your car battery annually. The only way to ensure that your battery is fully charged is to use a voltmeter or a battery tester. If your battery is in good condition, the voltage will be between 12.4 and 12.7 volts.
Let’s ensure the safety of our teens driving to school by getting your vehicle ready for the school year. These car checks, are only a few of the checks that should be done every year. Consult your Car’s Owner’s Manual for more information. Happy Back to School!

I think this is a great idea because teens should know more than just driving the car, they should know about the car and how to do basics of making sure the car is working properly. It’s all about responsibility !

I really wish I’d paid more attention when my dad did the general maintenance on my car in high school. Now he lives far away and I am clueless!
