For those of you who may not know what a bucket list is, let me fill you in on the particulars. A bucket list is a number of items, whether experiences or achievements, that a person wants to accomplish during their lifetime. There is no set number of items for a bucket list and no item is too big or small to go onto a bucket list either. You do not even need to be a certain age to start your bucket list and you can always add more items to it as you continue to get older or cross things off it.
The Joys of Bucket List Travel
Here are amazing bucket list destinations that you may want to add to your own bucket list travel:
Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu is in Peru and it is a destination that everyone should see once in their lifetime. This archaeological monument is quite high in elevation and one of the best ways to get the full experience is to hike all the way to the top. The hike can take multiple days as you walk along the Inca Trail, but once you reach the top, the ruins of the walls, terraces, and stairways of Machu Picchu will greet you. It is quite the spiritual experience that you will not find in many other areas of the world.
Iceland
A few of you may be wondering why on Earth anyone would want to visit Iceland, but it is one of the most magnificent places in the world. Plus, it has a feature that cannot be found anywhere else in any other country. That feature is the edge of Iceland, and it is inhabitable and can only be seen by driving around it. The Ring Road is one thousand miles in length and it will take you a week to complete it if you want to fully appreciate the beauty of the entire area. Of course, while you are in Iceland, you will also want to visit the Blue Lagoon and take a dip in the hot water that comes directly from the center of the Earth in their geothermal spa. The silica, algae, and minerals in the water have numerous healing benefits that you will enjoy at any time of the year. If you happen to be in Iceland at the right time of the year, you will have the chance to catch the Northern Lights, or the Aurora Borealis. These lights are phenomenal, and no one should miss them if they are in an area where they are prominent.
Pyramids of Giza
The Pyramids of Giza can be found just outside of Cairo, and even though they have been around for more than four thousand years, no one knows how they were built. The first pyramid is the largest with the subsequent two each being smaller than the one before. Visitors can see tomb art as well as inscriptions and texts to see what the Egyptians lives were like back then. It is not as easy to visit the Pyramids of Giza as it used to be, but if you have the opportunity to go, you should visit immediately.
These are only three of hundreds or thousands of places that you can add to your very own bucket list travel. Each bucket list is unique, and your list will look nothing like your best friend’s or your sibling’s or even your spouse’s. If you do not have a bucket list yet, I encourage you to start one today. After all, it is a new year, full of promises and adventures! Start small and add one or two things to your list. Then add items on as you think of them. I bet you will be amazed at what you come up with and what you realize you want to do in your lifetime!
