Valentine's Day Hot Chocolate Bombs

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup milk chocolate chips
  • 6 Tbsp hot chocolate mix
  • Small amount of white chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips to drizzle
  • Lucky Charms heart-shapped marshmallows
  • Heart-shape sprinkles
  • Chocolate mold

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir well and heat again for another 30 seconds. Repeat until the chocolate chips are completely melted. Do not overcook the chocolate.
  2. Step 2: Place the chocolate mold on a baking sheet for stability. Add 2 tablespoons of chocolate to each cavity. Make sure to completely cover the cavities by using the back of the spoon to spread. You want to spread the chocolate evenly all the way up to the edges.
  3. Step 3: Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes. You want your chocolate to be completely frozen. It will be easier to manipulate
  4. Step 4: Gently remove the chocolate half-spheres from the mold and place them on the baking sheet. Tip - Use latex gloves to avoid melting the half-spheres and getting fingerprints on them.
  5. Step 5: Fill 3 of the half-spheres with hot chocolate mix. Add a few Lucky Charms heart-shape marshmallows into the half-spheres.
  6. Step 6: Warm up an empty plate by placing it under hot water for a few seconds or warm up the plate in the microwave.
  7. Place one of the empty chocolate half-spheres on the warm plate to slightly melt the edges then quickly place it on top of a half-sphere already filled with hot chocolate mix. Repeat the same thing with the other half-spheres.
  8. Step 7: Decorate! Melt a small amount of milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips in the microwave and drizzle it on the chocolate bombs. Add the heart shape sprinkles on top. Voila!
  9. Step 8: Place a bomb in a mug and pour about a cup of hot water or hot milk over it. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

For the chocolate chips, you can use milk, dark, or semi-sweet chocolate. I made mine with Hershey's milk chocolate chips. The higher the quality of your chocolate, the better your Hot Chocolate Bombs will taste.

For the hot chocolate mix, simply use your favourite one.

The Lucky Charm marshmallows can be replaced by classic mini white marshmallows.

I used this chocolate mold in large to make the bombs because I wanted a sphere of 2.64'' diameter. With this size, the bombs fit nicely in any standard mug.
