5 foods you must eat in Belgium (I do not accept responsibility for the content of this post)
Every time I travel to Belgium, I can’t help but to embrace what is known to be the finest cuisine in the world. Belgium is influenced by many different cultures so it is not surprising that they have some of the most delicious foods.
As you probably know, Belgians are famous for their Brussels sprouts, their endive and so many more yummy foods. To share with you my love for this gorgeous country I made a list of my favourite 5 foods you must eat in Belgium. Disclaimer: I do not accept responsibly for any weight gain either.
Cones of chips
You will find Friteries (fritkot) everywhere in Belgium- you just can’t get away from it. You must try these fast food places that serve fries and many other deep fried foods. The cones of chips comes with many different sauces including mild or spicy sauces, ketchup, mayonnaise, and tartar sauce. From what I heard when I visit Belgium, chips are considered a main course and can be eaten at any time. The chips are made from potatoes and are fried twice.
Chocolate
The chocolate alone is worth buying yourself a one way ticket for tomorrow’s first flight out. Belgians produce the most delicious chocolates in the world and the vast majority of it is handmade. It would be completely unthinkable to travel to Belgium and not eat a few pounds of chocolate while touring the chocolate shops.
Waffles
There are two different types of Belgian waffles- the Liege waffle and the Brussels waffle. The Liege waffle is square and has caramelized sugar on it. It is probably the most common waffle you will find in Belgium. The Belgian waffle is rectangular, dusted with powdered sugar and you can choose to have it covered with chocolate, whipped cream, fruits or many other toppings.
Mussels
You have probably heard of a “moules frites” which is a national icon of the Belgian cuisine. You will find many restaurants serving mussels and chips prepared in every way possible. They are so popular in Belgian that millions of tons of mussels are served every year.
I had the opportunity to try the Filet Americain many times and I love it so much. It is very close to the French steak tartar as it is basically raw and seasoned minced beef serve cold. You can spread it on bread or eat it with frites as a main course.

Right so I’ll go for the waffles and you can have the Filet Americain – all my 7 children love tartar and often eat it with a raw egg on top too. I can’t understand anyone eating raw meat but then to add a raw egg!
