5 Ways to Protect your Home this Fall
Safety has always been second nature to me. Being a flight attendant, I am trained to ensure the safety of our passengers and I definitely bring all that knowledge home. To make sure that your family is safe this Fall it is important to protect your home from burglars. With the right security measures, you can easily make your home and your family safer. There are so many different things that you can do but I decided to focus on these 5 ways to protect your home.
Eliminate hiding spots
It is important to avoid providing hiding spots for potential burglars. If your trees and shrubs are large, you should trim them and remove branches hanging over your roof.
Use exterior lighting
It is important to illuminate every door including your garage door. The main entrance should have at least two bulbs in case one burns out. Using motion detector lighting everywhere can also help you keep burglars away. Don’t forget to install them in your backyard, on your driveway and on the sides of your house.
Use locks and security door bars
Locks and door bars are so easy to use that that they should be on top of your list. One of my favourite locks is the Master Lock Magnum M175XDLF Padlock. This lock is 50% harder than hardened steel, offering maximum resistance to cutting. It is perfect to lock sheds, gates, fences, and storage lockers. I also like the Master Lock 265D Security Door Bar made of rugged 20 gauge steel construction as it will resist forced entry through doors and sliding patio doors.
Make friends with your neighbours
It is always good to be friends with your neighbours and look out for one another. We can all spot suspicious activity and keep an eye on our neighbour’s house when they are away.
Install an alarm system
Installing an alarm system is often enough to deter burglars. Choose a home security system that uses motion detectors and install alarm sensors on your doors and windows.
