Going back to school is often a difficult time for children and parents. Meeting new people and getting used to a new schedule can be very stressful. This is why I wanted to share with you my tips to help you prepare your kids for the first day of school.
Focus on the positive things: Going back to school is filled with fun things and great opportunities. Focusing on the positive things about going back to school can help your children get excited about the new school year. Buying cool new school supplies and outfits, signing up for sports and other activities can definitely help to get everyone excited and focused on the positive things.
Re-Establish the school-day Routines: Waking up early, eating, and going to bed at the same time every day will help them (and you) adjust to the new schedule.
Pay attention to your own behavior: Children will pick up easily on your own anxiety and fears so it is important to remain calm, supportive and firm. Put your best smile on, and stay excited as you say goodbye to them. Don’t give in to tantrums and cries, stay positive and trust that everything is going to be okay.
Reassure your children but not too much: It’s also important to talk with your children about their fears and worries. Reassuring them is essential but helping them manage their own worries is also very important. Encouraging them to find their own way to lower their level of anxiety will improve their confidence.
Give them something to look forward: Anticipation and having something to look forward to can have a tremendous effect on your children. Even before they actually get to enjoy what they are looking for, it will definitely show them that no matter what happens at school, the day will end on a positive note. I usually tell my children on the first few days of school that they will get a KINDER® SURPRISE® at the end of the day.
No matter what you do to prepare your kids for the first day of school, stay positive and keep smiling. I wish you all a wonderful first day of school!

Anything that you can do to make it easier for them is well worth the effort. I don’t remember my first day at school but I think I must have been terrified.
