Things to do in Philadelphia with kids
-Gifted Experience-
Philadelphia is a historic and charming city to visit with kids. If you decide to visit this very special city with your kids, here are ten of my favorite things to do. Fun guaranteed!
Once Upon A Nation
Throughout Historic Philadelphia, you will find signs with “Once Upon A Nation” written on it. That means that there is a bench and a storyteller nearby. If you hear the bell, it means that a story is about to begin. We were basically learning everywhere we went. There are several benches situated throughout the Philadelphia History District and the stories are free.
PHLASH
The best way to get around Philadelphia is to hop on PHLASH. The Philly PHLASH Downtown Loop is quick and fun with 20 stops located at Philadelphia’s favorite attractions and landmarks. We absolutely loved discovering the city this way. We stopped by the Rocky Statue by the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The kids had a blast running up the stairs like Rocky did!
The Franklin Institute
The mission of The Franklin Institute is to inspire a passion for learning about science and technology. It sure inspired my kids greatly. Game Masters the exhibition with 100+ playable video games was amazing! Objects and artworks that illustrate the names behind the games and the extraordinary transformation that video games have undergone over time was super interesting. We also had the opportunity to learn how galaxies form in The Fels Planetarium. The immersive dome, measuring 60 feet in diameter provides the ultimate screen for cosmic exploration.
Philadephia Zoo
I can’t begin the to tell you how much fun we had at the oldest zoo in the country. We were in awe seeing the campus-wide network of see-through mesh trails allowing animal to walk right above us. The Philadelphia Zoo is one of the most animal-packed zoos in the country and is known for its historic architecture.
The kids absolutely adored the Flamingos. Look, aren’t they fascinating?
Reading Terminal Market
The Reading Terminal Market is an enclosed public market in downtown Philadelphia. There are hundreds of stores and eateries offering local produce, homemade food and goods. Of course, we had to try a little bit of everything, starting with this butter-dipped Amish-style pretzels from Miller’s Twist. It was so tasty!
