Traditional Sugar Tartlets Recipe

Traditional Sugar Tartlets Recipe

My mother and grandmother baked Sugar Pies and Sugar Tartlets at every special occasion and family gathering. They are so delicious, my children just can’t get enough of them. La tarte au sucre, meaning sugar pie, is a French-Canadian traditional recipe that your whole family will enjoy. It is one of Quebec’s most famous desserts, not to mention Pouding Chomeur and Bread Pudding. This sweet and simple Traditional Sugar Tartlets recipe is really easy to execute and will leave you wanting more.

Traditional Sugar Tartlets Recipe Pie

As I am always running around with the kids, I like to simplify my mother’s recipe by using frozen tart shells and frozen mini tart shells. For this recipe you will need one box of mini tart shells (18 per pack) or you could also do the exact same recipe and pour the filling in one big tart shell.

Filling ingredients
2 cups brown sugar, packed
2 tbsp all purpose flour
2 beaten eggs
1 vanilla extract
1 tbsp butter
1 cup milk

Directions
Preheat oven to 350F and put mini tart shells on a baking sheet. Mix together the brown sugar and the all purpose flour. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix very well and pour the filling into the shells. The sugar tartlets are cooked when the center is firm, approximately 18 to 20 minutes. Cover and let them sit at room temperature for about 2 hours. Serve at room temperature with vanilla ice cream.

Bon appétit! I hope you will enjoy my delicious Traditional Sugar Tartlets Recipe. This winter pie is mostly made in family homes and in many sugar shacks during the spring (although the traditional sugar pie doesn’t contain maple syrup).

Oh wow, I didn’t realise how easy it is to make tarts! I just might be in trouble, ’cause I quite the addiction to tarts with pecans. Guess whats going to be made in my kitchen in the next few days once I pick up some Tenderflake, heh. Thanks for the inspiration! 😉

I never make tarts because I’m too lazy to make the pastry, I never thought of buying it pre-done. Great thinking. This sounds so good. I am a sucker for a good butter tart.

Oooooh, I love sugar tarts! These looks scrumptious! You’re right that they’re nice and easy to whip up in a hurry for a quick dessert, especially if you’ve got tart shells in the freezer. Thanks for sharing!
